The ultimate tart
Nobody can leave Jerica without a Jericano: A creation of fine pastry, refreshing lemon custard, smooth meringue and a coat of melted chocolate. An irresistible tart and without doubt the most seductive Jericano.
They are baked in the “Pastelería Mesado” -just follow the sweet scent of cakes and pastries in the high street- the bakery where Rosa and Ricardo have made the Jericano famous.
The demand is so great at one time of the year that this bakery produces thousands of these little tarts, using up to 50 kilos of flour, 15 kilos of butter another 10 of sugar, 20 litres of water and a kilo of salt. Thousands of trays of Jericanos emptied in a few minutes: this is the traditional dessert served at the Santa Águeda dinner offered yearly by the local Council at the beginning of February.
But don’t panic: If you wish to try this tart named after the town you don’t have to come here in February, since they are baked all year round.
