Just the idea of going on a bicycle ride awakes the imagination and our childhood memories of a happy summer’s day, discovering the world…

For example, in the countryside surrounding Sharíqua. Ideal for tranquil rides on two wheels or more exacting routes along mountain tracks.

There are two gems for bicycle lovers: the ‘via verde Ojos Negros’ that passes through Jérica and the Mountain Bike routes. Many of the latter are signposted and maintained by the BTT Centre of the neighbouring town of Navajas. There are 9 routes of distinct grades of difficulty with a total 385 kilometres passing through nature reserves, mountains and villages of the area.

Of course, there are many more routes, including those of the various BTT events that take place throughout the year with a growing number of participants.

Those that opt for the “vía verde Ojos Negros” will experience the pleasure of cycling.

With its length of 160 km this is not only one of Spain’s longest ‘Via Verdes’ (Abandoned rural railways that have been reconverted into cycle and bridle paths) but also one of the most used. With its low gradient it is an easy ride through beautiful countryside showing us villages, farms, cultural heritage, rural life. Excitement is added by the many tunnels and viaducts passed on route. There are also pic-nic areas in priviledged locations alongside the ‘Via Verde’.

You have got carried away and feel too tired to cycle back to the house? Don’t worry, there are bike taxis available for tired cyclists!
